Chronic Stress

However, sometimes we get so overwhelmed by stressors or they are so constant that our body never fully turns off the fight or flight response and we never fully experience the relaxation response. This constant level of stress chemicals in our body can actually have negative impacts on our health.

Symptoms of chronic stress are muscle tension, fatigue, hypertension, headaches, and stomach or GI problems and constant worrying. All of these symptoms can make it difficult to rest, and maintaining this “extra alertness” can wear down your body and brain.

Although you may not have control over all of the stressors in your life, you can have control over how you deal with them.  One of the ways to deal with stress is to learn how to make your body turn on the healthy relaxation response.
