Many things can affect sleep in older adults. As people get older, they often have more health problems. Poor health or long-term medical conditions can make sleep harder. Pain, arthritis, asthma, diabetes, heartburn at night, and needing to go to the bathroom often can wake people up. Pain and discomfort can also make it hard to fall back asleep. Some medicines can help you sleep, while others can make it harder.
Social schedules and activities often change with age and can also affect sleep. When we engage in less activity, we may feel less tired.
