Pillows should be replaced every 1 to 5 years depending upon the type of filler in the pillow.
Neck and back problems are worsened by bad or worn-out pillows.

- Does your pillow match your sleep style? A side sleeper needs a thicker pillow because when resting on a shoulder his/her head will be further from the bed. A down pillow (or synthetic equivalent) is the softest type of pillow but does not offer much support, making it the best choice for a back or stomach sleeper. Some people like memory-form pillows, but these may make you a little warmer, since the foam doesn’t breathe as well as usual pillow materials.
- Are you kept awake by someone who snores? There are now pillows designed to help reduce or stop snoring. Designed to provide specialized support to the head and neck, these pillows help to open obstructed airways.
