Diet and Sleep: When to Eat

Lighter meals are more likely to give you a restful night’s sleep. High-fat meals and large meals prolong the work your digestive system needs to do. Although you may fall asleep faster on a full stomach, all of the work required to digest a big meal can cause increased awakenings and poorer quality of sleep. Of course, spicy and acidic foods can cause heartburn and make you uncomfortable. Try to make dinnertime earlier in the evening, and avoid heavy, rich foods as bedtime snacks.

Drinking too much liquid before bedtime can cause you to wake-up during the night.
